What did Carra students do on ANZAC Day?
Carra students marched down Main Street, Eldorado behind service personnel at the ANZAC Day Dawn Service, alongside the Eldorado and Wangaratta North CFA and the wider community. Students led the crowd in both the Australian and New Zealand national anthems, and performed the Auslan song Thank You to the Soldiers.
In the stillness before dawn, with a lone piper and bugler marking the service, our students represented the school with real pride. They had prepared carefully, including learning the Māori version of the New Zealand anthem.
How do students learn about ANZAC Day at school?
Senior students led the school's own ANZAC service, running the ceremony themselves. In class, students wrote ANZAC-themed poetry and created charcoal sketches of soldiers, which were displayed in the school's main entrance for families to see.
Students also met a former teacher who taught at Carra in the 1960s and shared stories of the school's history, connecting the day to our own 150 years of learning.
Why do Carra students take part in community events?
Taking part in the Eldorado Dawn Service reflects our school mission of connecting children to self, school, community and environment. Community events give students a real setting to show respect, leadership and pride, and to contribute to the towns their families call home.
The Auslan song the students performed came from our whole-school Auslan program, another way Carra connects learning in the classroom to life beyond it.
