Wild Gold

Wild Gold is an interactive 360 degree experience created by Carra students in 2023. It was made possible by a $10,000 Creative Arts Victoria grant. Visitors move through the landscape around Eldorado and discover the students' writing, photographs and film along the way.

The project took its inspiration from Woolshed Falls, Mount Pilot National Park, and the natural and built landscapes around the tiny town of Eldorado. Students explored the connections between self, community and the natural environment. Those are the same connections our school vision is built on.

The tour opens with a short film, then lets you look around each location in full 360 degrees. Give it a moment to load. It carries high resolution images and video, so wifi is better than mobile data.

Students visited local waterways with professional writers and videographers. They captured the landscape in photographs and video. Back at school they wrote their own stories, shaped by what they had seen and heard.

Those stories and images were then built into the 360 degree experience. Students invented characters to guide visitors through it, and wove the real history of the area into what those characters tell you.

Uncle Dozer Atkinson, a proud member of the Bangerang Nation, shared the Indigenous history connected to gold in this area. His knowledge sits alongside the students' work in the tour.

Wild Gold gave students a real audience and a real deadline. They learned creative writing, photography, videography and digital storytelling. They also learned media production, collaboration, and what it takes to share your work with the world.

Along the way they built confidence, communication skills and a deeper appreciation for the history and natural beauty on their doorstep. That is what we mean by meaningful, real-world learning.
