MARCV

The Mobile Area Resource Centre (MARC Van) is a small mobile library, based at Devenish Primary School, that visits our school every second week. The MARC van is filled with picture story books, fictional novels, non-fiction books as well as teacher resources for students and teachers to borrow. We are very fortunate to have this service for our school which complements and extends our current school library,  located in the main school building.

This important resource, complemented by learning sessions with the MARC Van teacher, Mrs Katrina Davies assists our children to be exposed to a wider variety of literature resources, knowledge, understanding and skills to engage imaginatively and critically with literature and expand the scope of their experience.

The van visit  gives our students the opportunity to go to the van and borrow a broader selection of library books once a fortnight.

The library resource session links with the English Curriculum to ensure that students:

  • learn to listen to, read, view, speak, write, create and reflect on increasingly complex and sophisticated spoken, written and multimodal texts across a growing range of contexts with accuracy, fluency and purpose
  • appreciate, enjoy and use the English language in all its variations and develop a sense of its richness and power to evoke feelings, convey information, form ideas, facilitate interaction with others, entertain, persuade and argue
  • understand how Standard Australian English works in its spoken and written forms and in combination with non-linguistic forms of communication to create meaning
  • develop interest and skills in inquiring into the aesthetic aspects of texts, and develop an informed appreciation of literature.
